The High Court of the Western Cape province in South Africa ruled that an agreement of the year 2014 between the Energy Ministry and Rosatom, a Russian state nuclear energy corporation, for the construction of eight nuclear reactors in South Africa was “illegal and must be cancelled”.

This is stated in the court order.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of South African Nuclear Energy Corporation, Kelvin Kemm, told TASS that he saw significant consequences of that decision for the project of construction of nuclear power plants with a total capacity of 9.6 GW, which would be implemented with the participation of Rosatom and suppliers of nuclear technologies from three more countries.

He specified that similar agreements had been signed with China, France, South Korea.
