The Road Department at the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia and the Spanish company IDOM Consulting, Engineering, Architecture, SAU signed a contract on preparation of a project for the reconstruction and modernization of two main sections of the Georgian Military highway, linking the country with Russia.
According to the Department’s report, the project involves the development of a feasibility study for the upgrading of a 111-km section of Zhinvali – Lars road running through the Georgian-Russian border, as well as the detailed design of a 26-km section from the village of Kveshkheti to Kobi located near the ski mountain resort of Gudauri.
The contract with the Spanish company is estimated at 3.2 million euro and 4.2 million lari (€1.6 million at the current exchange rate — editor’s note).
The company has 14 months to carry out the design works on the both sites, after which a tender will be announced for construction activities.
