The head of Novatek, Leonid Mikhelson, does not rule out the possibility of participation of Japanese companies in a consortium for the preparation of a project for LNG plant – Arctic LNG 2.

This is what Leonid Mikhelson told journalists following a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe.

“Partially – yes,” he said, answering a question about the possibility of the participation of Japanese companies in the technology consortium.

In 2014, Novatek has obtained the right of export of liquefied natural gas from Gydan Peninsula located in the Siberian coast in the Kara Sea. The company expects to receive permit to build the LNG plant as early as 2017 and to complete the construction by 2022. The facility’s maximum capacity will approximately amount to 15-16,5 million tons of LNG per year.

As it follows from the documentation of Novatek, the company estimates the capital cost of Arctic LNG 2 project at $10 billion.
