Tesla Inc., an American electric car manufacturer, has started taking pre-orders for solar panels intended for Solar Roof.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of Tesla and SolarCity Elon Musk, in general, the roof consisting of such panels will be cheaper than the installation of a conventional tile roofing, although it will be more expensive than a bitumen one.
To register a pre-order, it is necessary to make a deposit in the amount of $1,000. In the USA, installation of Solar Roofs will begin this summer. Since next year, installation of solar panels will be launched overseas, moreover, Musk has promised to ensure a delivery to “to almost all countries”.
As a reference, Solar Roof will consist of solar panels just for a third, but if desired, the customer can increase the share of active tiles. The company believes that in order to recoup the roof for 30 years, 35% of such tiles will be enough.
