Japanese carmaker Toyota will invest 40 million yen ($353 million) in a project for the creation of a flying car, according to Nikkei Asian Review.
The project, previously funded by crowdfunding, was launched in 2012, and had been developed by a group of volunteers. By the end of 2018, the group plans to develop a manned prototype, while a flying car is expected to be brought on the market by Olympics in Tokyo scheduled for 2020.
Earlier, the CNBC news agency, citing the Product Director at Uber, Jeff Holden, reported that the company was also planning to develop the first prototype of flying cars by 2020, as well as the infrastructure to support vehicles with vertical take-off and landing.
