Atommash plant, which is incorporated in Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation, plans to make by the end of 2018 a shell for the world's most powerful research fast-neutron reactor, production director at the enterprise, Vitaly Shishov, told reporters on Wednesday.

As a reference, Atommash is a branch of JSC AEM-Technology in the city of Volgodonsk, situated in the Rostov region of Russia. The reactor is under construction currently at an enterprise located in the town of Dimitrovgrad, the Ulyanovsk region.

“This is a multi-purpose research reactor. We are tasked to make (a shell – editor’s note) in the shortest possible time. In 2018, we have to dispatch it,” Shishov said.

The reactor will operate in Dimitrovgrad on the premises of a state scientific center, JSC Atomic Reactors Research Institute. The devise is intended to become a new technological platform of nuclear power based on transition to a closed nuclear fuel cycle with reactors operating on fast neutrons.
