The Government of India approved on Wednesday the construction of dozen heavy water reactors with a total capacity of 7,000 MW, the Cabinet’s press release says.

“By taking an important decision on the acceleration of India’s nuclear program and stimulating the national nuclear industry, the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the construction of 10 units of domestically made heavy water reactors for India. A total output of the reactors will amount to 7,000 MW,” the document reads.

However, the document does not specify the locations of construction sites. Each reactor will have a capacity of 700 MW and will be built with the use of the advanced technologies with the highest security standards.
