On Wednesday, members of Zabaikalsky regional legislative assembly addressed Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev with a request to render an assistance in the financing of construction of a new uranium mine.
As a source in the region told TASS news agency today, the problem is that uranium resources are falling short at the operating mines of Russia’s largest enterprise producing uranium – Priargunsky Mining and Chemical Works.
The enterprise will continue its operation, when an investment project titled “The Development of Argunsky and Zherlovoye Uranium Deposit.” Earlier, construction activities at this site were scheduled to start in 2018 – 2019. This will require about 27 billion rubles ($477 million), which neither the enterprise, nor the regional authorities have got in full measure.
