$320-million railroad to be built around Tashkent

In the period from 2017 to 2021, the Uzbek authorities intend to implement a project on construction of an electrified double-track high-speed railroad around Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan.




According to a decree of Uzbekistan’s President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the project with a total cost of $320,1 million will be financed from the state budget in the amount of $185,1 million, a loan of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan in the amount of $20 million and a loan of Chinese Exim Bank in the amount of $115 million.

JSC Uzbek Railways (Uzbekiston Temir Yullari) acts as a project owner and a borrower of the Chinese loan. The President instructed the company to submit a feasibility study of the project for the government’s approval until October 1, 2018.

A total length of one line of the ring railroad will amount to 71,2 km. More than 140 km of railway lines are planned to be laid and 26 stations to be built.
