Sungrow, a Chinese company producing photovoltaic panels, announced the commissioning of the world's largest floating solar power station.

The installation of 40 MW was built in the city of Huainan, known as a center of coal mining in the country. The plant has been successfully integrated into the grid of the city, Daily Commercial News reports.

The plant is located in an abandoned mining area, which had been flooded due to heavy rains. The water depth there ranges from four to ten meters. The water is mineralized, what makes it useless for other purposes.

“The station not only derive the greatest benefit from this site, it reduces the need for land and improves the production of electricity due to the cooling effect of a water surface”, Daily Commercial News quotes an unnamed representative of the local administration.
