US sanctions against Russia are a way to compete for the gas market, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Gazprom Alexander Medvedev told reporters on Thursday on the sidelines of a conference on prospects of the energy cooperation development between Russia and the EU.
“As for the sanctions, it is a way of competition, to ensure potential supplies of American LNG (liquefied natural gas – editor’s note),” Mr. Medvedev said.
He noted that the position of Gazprom on the European market is strong enough.
“Our position is quite strong. Despite the entire period since 2009, when numerous calls to reduce dependence on Russian gas or gas in general, we see that our market share has grown,” Alexander Medvedev specified.
