The Russian oil company Lukoil has won the right to develop block 12 in the part of the Gulf of Mexico’s water area, which was put on auction, Reuters reports citing the Mexican regulator of the oil industry.
An area of the block 12 amounts to 521 square kilometers, with prospective reserves amounting to 958 million barrels of oil.
Mexico has put up for sale an overall number of 15 blocks located in the southern part of the Gulf of Mexico, 10 of which have already ben bought.
One of the blocks was purchased by Eni. The company also participates in consortia in two blocks (with Capricorn and Citla Energy in one case and Citla in the other case).
