Lutch scientific-research institute based in the Russian city of Podolsk and affiliated with Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation for the first time has presented a model of a compact power supply unit based on radioactive isotope nickel-63.

The model was displayed at the international forum 2017 ATOMEXPO

Properties of Nickel-63 make it a very convenient base for miniature, safe and maintenance-free beta-voltaic power supply units with a long-term service life and relatively high power density. It is noteworthy that such a devise has a service life of at least 50 years.

These power sources can be exploited in different fields, such as medicine and space exploration, as well as in remote areas and under extreme conditions.
