Georgia completes construction of its largest nuclear power plant

Georgia has completed construction of a large hydropower plant – Shuakhevi HPP.




According to the press office of Georgia’s government, a ceremony of the construction completion took place on the 24th of June and was attended by Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Vice Prime Minister and Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze, representatives of the Indian power company TATA POWER, which implemented the project, the Norwegian company Clean Energy Invest and others.

Construction of Shuakhevi HPP began in autumn of 2013 and was carried out with the use of the latest technology, which ensured construction of the station in the shortest possible time. The investment cost of the project amounted to $416 million.

The installed capacity of the plant is 187 MW, and in winter months, all of the electricity produced at the station will remain and be used in Georgia, while in summer months, during the period of excess output, it will be exported to Turkey.
