Negotiations with Japan over a project for construction of an international electrical power transmission network named Asian Super Grid will be relevant after certain amendments to Japanese legislation, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Yuri Trutnev, said.

“Today, Japanese law prohibits the purchase of electric energy from other parties. These negotiations are underway, from time to time, they (the Japanese – editor’s note) say that it is of interest to them, but no changes have been done to the law. Our position is simple: if Japan changes the law and will be ready to make purchases, then we'll be able to talk about the electricity grid,” Yuri Trutnev said.

Earlier, Russia, Japan, China and South Korea have signed a Memorandum of understanding on the construction of a large Asian electricity grid.
