North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), a non-profit organization for supervision of electrical infrastructure, has confirmed a cyber attack on several American nuclear power plants, E&E News informs with the reference to the company’s press office.
Representative of the press office, Kimberly Mielcarek, said that the company was “aware of the incident”, which was code-named “Nuclear 17”. She also noted that the company was working with the government to assess the potential impact of the incident on energy industry. However, it was not revealed what nuclear power plants and when the cyber attacks were committed.
The U.S. authorities are investigating cyber attack, which influenced operation of a number of nuclear power facilities this year.
