In France, up to 17 nuclear reactors out of the existing 58 are likely to be shut down by 2025, the Environment Minister, Nicolas Hulot, said, Le Figaro reports.

The decision is part of a plan for 50-percent reduction of the nuclear energy share in electricity production.

“We intend to shut down some reactors... perhaps, up to 17 reactors. The figure is being discussed,” Hulot noted. However, he did not specify what kind of reactors would be shut down.

Last week, Hulot presented a plan for combatting a climate change, one of which measures was the decline in the share of nuclear energy in electricity production.

At present, in France, 58 reactors operate at 19 nuclear power plants.
