UNESCO has declared the Indian city of Ahmedabad a world heritage site, Interfax news agency reports on Monday.

The decision on Ahmedabad’s inclusion in the list was taken during the 41st summit of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO, which was held last weekend in Poland.

In particular, the Gates of Ahmedabad built in the year 1411, and numerous temples, as well burial places in the territory of the city have fallen under the umbrella of UNESCO protection.

As a reference, Ahmedabad is the largest city in the Indian state of Gujarat and the fifth largest in India. It was built in the early 1400's and named after Sultan Ahmed Shah.
