Apple announced its intention to build the company’s first data center in China to comply with local law requiring global companies to store users’ data within the country.

The data center will be established jointly with the Chinese company Guizhou. Information about Chinese Apple users will be transferred there within the next months, according to a press release from the company.

The creation of the new data center will allow Apple to increase the speed and reliability of the company’s products and services, as well as to lead the company’s activities in accordance with the new legislation, the statement reads.

Some analysts have expressed concern that such a measure can give Chinese authorities greater control over information, as well as an access to Apple technology, but the company has assured that it has strong protection measures, including those regarding personal data.
