Restoration of the Vitebsk railroad station began in the Russian city of St. Petersburg in preparation for 2018 World Cup, the press office of the Oktyabrskaya Railway said on Thursday.

First and foremost restorers will take on historical facades of the station, where scaffolding has already been erected and will remain until the end of October 2017.

“The restoration works are based on archival sources – restorers recreate the original appearance of the station building, so that its visitors will be able to see the station as it was built back in 1904,” the press release says.

Vitebsky railway station is the first railway station in Russia, it was built in 1837 and was named Tsarskoye Selo.
