The French EDF energy company took a decision to stop the reactors of the oldest NPP in France, Le Figaro reports.




The NPP is located in the town of Fessenheim in the east of France. Presently its work is stopped for at least several weeks for the maintenance of one of the reactors. The second reactor was stopped in 2016 intil the year of 2018.

The Fessenheim NPP was put in operation in 1978, it has two reactors with the capacity of 900MW. In 2016 the NPP produced about 1.5% of the total electric energy consumed in France.

19 NPP with 58 reactors work in France at the moment. According tp French Environment Minister Segolene Royal the country's oldest nuclear power plant will close by 2020.
