On Wednesday, Auchan Russia put in operation a meat distribution centre which will provide all the chain’s shops with meat. The investment in the project totals 3.5 bln roubles (≈$58m). The area ofthe enetrprise is 14,000 square meter
President of Auchan Retail Russia, Jean-Pierre Germain, spoke at the opening of the centre. According to him, the company intends to focus at the rebranding of the Atak shops. “We do not strive to be the biggest, we want to be the best”, — he said.
180 Atak shops are to be rebranded and reorganized to Auchan.
Presently, Auchan is the largest player on the Russian market in the hypermarket sector in sale proceeds. As to the trade area, Lenta chain is leaving Auchan behind. J-P Germain announced that the company is going to complete the construction of hypermarkets in Krasnoyarsk, Pushkino and some other Russian cities.
Auchan Retail Russia is the Russian department of Auchan Retail, included in Auchan Holding with headquarets in France. The company has worked on the Russian market since 2002. The chain unites 100 hypermarkets, 175 supermarkets and 10 “next door” shops.
