The stadium which will host matches of an upcoming 2018 World Cup in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod, is granted a commissioning permit, Russian media reported on Friday with a reference to the press service of the Transport Ministry of Russia.

The head of the Russian Sports Ministry, Pavel Kolobkov, noted, the new stadium is in perfect harmony with the environment and surrounding architecture. The object is located at the confluence of the rivers of Volga and Oka. With its wave-shaped facade, the stadium fits well into the local landscape. At the same time, its architecture does not violate the harmony of historic neighborhoods of Nizhny Novgorod, located nearby. Mr. Kolobkov expressed confidence that the new stadium would become “a true beauty of the city.”

On April 15, the stadium will host its first test match with the participation of Russian teams from Nizhny Novgorod and St. Petersburg. The capacity of the facility is 45,000 seats while the area is more than 127,000 square meters. The construction of an object worth 17 billion rubles was launched in 2015.
