Venezuelan Ambassador to Russia, Carlos Rafael Faria Tortosa, said that the issue of opening a Kalashnikov plant in Venezuela will be negotiated during a forthcoming visit of the country’s Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez to Moscow.

“This is now being discussed, the question is being worked out together with our Russian partners. This will be negotiated during a visit of Vladimir Padrino Lopez to Russia”, Tortosa said.

Earlier, the Ambassador announced the arrival of the Defense Minister of Venezuela in Moscow for a security conference on April 4-5. We should remind you that in 2016, the construction of factories producing Kalashnikov assault rifles was resumed in Venezuela. Earlier, in 2014, the project implementation was suspended. The Russian party initiated then a criminal case over disruptions in construction and investigators revealed that during a period from February 12, 2010, to June 1, 2011, more than 1 billion rubles had been embezzled.
