Embankments of the Russian city of St. Petersburg hosting 2018 World Cup will be exploited as sites for “floating hotels”. The corresponding law was adopted by the city’s Legislative Assembly on the eve of this remarkable event.

As the bill’s authors note, this year, St. Petersburg will be visited by eight million tourists but there is no sufficient number of hotels to accommodate all of them. In this regard, they suggested taking an opportunity of installing “floating hotels” which, in addition to solving the above-mentioned problem, stand a good chance to become another tourist attraction of the city.

Amendments allowing to place floating objects on the embankments will be included in the law on the development of small and medium-sized businesses. Nevertheless, there is a number of limitations. Thus, a “floating hotel” cannot be placed within the security zones.
