In April, the first cinema in the past 35 years will be put in operation in Saudi Arabia by the American AMC Entertainment Holdings, Interfax news agency reports on Wednesday.

As the government put it, residents of Saudi Arabia annually spend about $20 billion on trips abroad, of which $5.6 billion account for entertainment. The country’s authorities decided to take steps to encourage the Saudis to spend a significant part of this money in the domestic market, the Wall Street Journal notes. AMC plans to open up to 40 cinemas in 15 cities in Saudi Arabia for five years, and by the 2030 year, their number is expected to grow up to 100.

The first of them will be located in a symphonic concert hall in Riyadh, which will be converted into a four-hall movie theater. It is scheduled to start operating on April 18. The ticket price is initially planned to be about $13. In general, the Saudi authorities intend to open 300 cinemas with 2,000 screens by 2030.
