Booking.com, a website for booking accommodation, has outstripped the startup Airbnb in the number of tenants as well as flats offered to tenants.
This comes as a surprise because the former focuses mainly on hotels and hostels while Airbnb was created specifically to allow house owners let on lease their properties.
According to a statement of Booking.com, over the past year, the number of private accommodations offered on the website has increased by 27%, up to 5 million. While this indicator of Airbnb stands at 4,85 million, including about 200,000 rooms in hotels. Private houses have always been present on traditional booking sites like Booking and Expedia but mostly as country houses.
