According to a decree by Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev, the new airport in the Saratov region will be named in honor of cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, who was the first human to journey into outer space.

This is stated in the decree, which was signed today by the Russian Prime Minister. As noted in the document, this decision is due to the fact that Gagarin's biography is largely connected with the Saratov region.

The initiative to assign the name of Gagarin to the new international airport in the region belongs to the regional government. In addition, this decision has received unequivocal support from the local population.

We should remind you that construction activities on the construction of the facility have been conducted since 2011 in accordance with the federal program for the development of Russia’s transportation system.
