An automated waste sorting plant began its operation at a solid municipal waste landfill in the city of Dzerzhinsk, Interfax news agency reported on Friday.

Some 1.2 billion rubles have been invested in the implementation of the project, of which 60% are the investor's own funds. The plant with a capacity of 60 tons per hour or 470,000 tons per year will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Every day, a technological break will take place at the facility, which will last 2 hours.

“Thus, almost all the volume of solid municipal waste will be sorted, only the fractions that are not suitable for further processing will be disposed of,” the report said.

The enterprise has not reached the design capacity yet and now the equipment is being adjusted at the plant. After sorting, the product will be delivered to processors from both Nizhny Novgorod and other neighboring regions.
