Aeroflot, Russia’s largest airline, has unveiled its plans to build a network of hubs in different cities of the Russian Federation.

This statement was made today by Aeroflot General Director Vitaly Savelyev at the annual meeting of shareholders, RBC reports.

“In the new strategy, we will report our proposals to the Board of Directors this autumn, including the construction of a new hub and regional hubs in other cities in Russia”, the airline's spokesman explained.

Savelyev has noted that, at present, the infrastructure of Moscow Sheremetyevo airport allows the transportation of 80 million passengers annually, while the airline carries about 33 million passengers per year. In this connection, he has stressed that the task of Aeroflot is “to fill the niche” until it is filled by competing airlines.
