Anatoly Chubais, who is the head of a state-owned Rusnano company developing nanotechnology, has announced that the use of carbon fiber will lead to a breakthrough in Russia’s construction industry.

This statement Mr. Chubais made on Tuesday at Innoprom exhibition that is being held in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg. As Interfax news agency reports on July 10, the head of Rusnano stands for the use of carbon fiber in building load-bearing structures.

“A large-scale breakthrough is, of course, the replacement of load-bearing structures with carbon fiber in the area of construction”, Anatoly Chubais said, noting that that could happen in the next ten years.

According to him, wrapping reinforced concrete columns with a carbon fiber is the first stage. The next one is the application of carbon fiber. The head of Rusnano added that such building materials could be used, for example, in the construction of power transmission towers.
