On a short-term horizon, the Russian state atomic corporation Rosatom will begin the construction of two new power units at the Paks NPP in Hungary, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

“Rosatom will soon start the construction of two new power units at the Paks nuclear power plant”, President Putin said at a news conference following the Russian-Hungarian talks in Moscow, Russia 24 television channel reports on Tuesday.

According to the head of the state, the operating nuclear power station has been producing 40% of the electricity consumed in Hungary.

“The commissioning of additional capacity will double the amount of electricity production and meet the demand of the Hungarian economy for years to come”, Vladimir Putin added.

We should remind you that the Paks NPP is located 5 kilometers from Paks in the center of Hungary and is the first and only operating nuclear power plant in the country. Its four reactors generate more than 50% of the total electrical power produced in Hungary.
