The Muslim community of Russia has addressed Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu with a request to help them to erect a mosque near the main Orthodox Christian church of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

As RIA Novosti news agency reported on Friday with reference to Chairman of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia, Albir Krganov. Earlier it was reported that the main Orthodox Christian church of the Russian military was planned to be built in Patriot Park located in the Moscow region.

“We hope that a decision will be made on the construction of a mosque next to the future Orthodox church, because the role of people who professed other religions in the Great Patriotic War and in the struggle against Napoleon is great, and today, Muslims serve and fulfill their civic duty in Syria,” Krganov said.

“On behalf of the Spiritual Assembly of the Muslims of Russia, we addressed the Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu and His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia since he is the honorary chairman of the Interreligious Council of Russia,” he added.
