The world’s first electric generating windmill built in Russia marks its 85-year anniversary

Its visitors will learn interesting facts about the history of this unique device, and about the life and creative work of the talented dwellers of Kursk. Documents, drafts and photographs dating from the beginning of the 20th century will be on display.

To remind you, a 42-meter prismatic tower with a three-bladed wind motor on the top was constructed in 1931 by Anatoly Ufimtsev, a Kursk resident and innovator, in his house’s courtyard.

A special motor was created for it. The windmill generated so much energy that it could supply both his workshop and Semenovskaya Street’s lighting.

The windmill had been functioning uninterrupted until the end of the 1950s.
