Construction on ancient cemetery forbidden in North Caucasus city

The city’s administration halted the construction work at the site where the Scythian burial mound was discovered, the local media reports.

Researchers have calculated that the mound might have been erected about 5,000 years ago. At present, the borders of the historical artefact are to be determined.

The Scythians were Iranian Eurasian nomads inhabiting large areas in the northern Black Sea and Caucasus region. Later, their Central Asian nomadic empire stretched from the Carpathian Mountains in the west to southern Siberia in the east.
