New Latino art museum under construction in San Francisco

A groundbreaking ceremony for the new cultural object was held this week. The project has been inspired by Mexican-American artist Peter Rodriguez, who established the first museum for Latino art in San Francisco in 1975. At present, the museum’s collection amounts to over 16,000 pre-Columbian, colonial and contemporary works of Mexican and Latino art.

New object will occupy 5574 sq.m in downtown city. Eight hundred pieces of Mexican folk art will be displayed there. The pieces of art were donated by the family of Nelson Rockefeller, as well as by Mexican muralist Diego Rivera and painter Miguel Covarrubias.
