FSB officer appointed new Head of Russian Customs Service

Before that, Dmitry Medvedev accepted a resignation of the former Head of the Federal Customs Service, Andrey Belyaninov.

We should remind you that this week the office and home of Andrey Belyaninov have been searched over the criminal case of grand smuggling of alcoholic products. Operatives of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia and Russian Investigative Committee, in particular, have recovered 100 m roubles in cash and 1,2 kg of gold in bars and nuggets there.

The new Head of the Federal Customs Service, Vladimir Bulavin, was born in 1953 in the Lipetsk region. He has been serving in state security apparatus since 1977. In 2006, Bulavin was appointed Deputy Director of the FSB of Russia and chief of stuff of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee. From 2008, Vladimir Bulavin held a position of the First Deputy Secretary of Russia’s Security Council. In 2013, he was appointed RF Presidential Envoy in the Northwestern Federal District.
