50% of New York power to be generated from renewable sources

This will be ensured by considerable subsidies allotted to nuclear power plants, which is intended to reduce the state's dependance on fossil fuels.

The plan approved on the 1st of August, will help New York, along with California, Hawaii and Vermont, attain one of the strongest clean energy goals in the country. At present, New York generates from renewable sources no more than a quarter of its energy.

Ecologists welcomed this measure taken by the state’s authorities. However, there are voices against an increase in expenditure on the nuclear industry.
