US Attorney’s Office leaves without comment $500 m penalty cut in PG&E case

The incident took place in year 2010 having caused death of 8 people, 58 were injured and 38 homes were ruined.

The US Attorney’s Office hasn’t commented its unexpected move so far.

Prosecutors insisted that PG&E paid a fine of no more than $6 million, in case it’s convicted, however, initially the sum amounted to $562 million.

PG&E faces federal criminal charges that it violated pipeline safety laws and put obstacles for an inquiry into the pipeline explosion and fire occurred in San Bruno, Calif.

Notwithstanding the outcome of the case, PG&E, which has pleaded not guilty, intends to change its safety requirements.
