Indian authorities give clearance for Kudankulam NPP second unit

According to R.S.Sundar, all required pre-operational tests had been completed, following their results, the regulatory body gave a clearance for proceeding towards producing power from the unit and power ascension with the purpose to connect the unit to the grid.

Thus, power unit’s capacity will be increased up to 50%, what will be enough to start generate energy. As soon as the NPP’s commercial exploitation begins, what is expected in three – five months, the nuclear power plant will generate 1000 MW.

A general contractor of the project is JSC Atomstroyexport, which is engaged in detailed engineering, equipment supplies and technical assistance, and a general design contractor is JSC Atomenergoproyekt. Both companies are integrated in ASE.

As a reference, in spring 2014, Russia and India signed a general framework agreement on construction of the second phase of Kudankulam NPP.
