According to the Group’s President, Le Phuoc Vu, the following facilities are planned to be built in the area: a metallurgical combine with a capacity of 16m tons per year, a cement plant, a power station, a logistic center and a sea port with a cargo turn-over of over 50m tons annually. The total amount of investments in a metallurgical combine only is estimated at $10,6 bln.
The project implementation is scheduled to start in 2017 or in early 2018 and will be carried out in several stages.
A number of Vietnamese experts are cautious about this ambitious initiative of Hoa Sen. First, operation of such an enormous enterprise might pose a significant risk of environment pollution, given that Vietnam has already faced this problem. Second, experts suppose that the country has already had an excessive number of steel producing facilities and a new one is surplus.
