Britain finances building wall to stop illegal immigration from France

Over the course of a setting of Commons’ Home Affairs Select Committee, Amber Rudd said that such a move would be “in Britain’s interest” and will help bolster security. At the same time, she emphasized that it was “up to the French authorities” how to secure the borders in Calais, but Britain is ready to “support the French with money”.

The 13ft concrete wall, a so-called “Great Wall Of Calais”, will stretch a mile along the main motorway to the port.

However critics believe that the wall would not help to deter illegal migrants who have been stopping bypassing trucks, hurling rocks and chainsaws.
