Georgia intends to reconstruct over 1,300 km of roads

“The most large-scale and one of the key components of the program is the creation of new transport corridors, so that Georgia could become a transport and logistics hub connecting Europe and Asia. For this purpose, construction and reconstruction of approximately 1,000 km of roads are planned over the period until the year 2020. Approximate cost of these roads totals $3,5 bln. In particular, construction of 550 km of highways, 300 bridge passages and 50 motorway tunnels is envisaged in the plan. Additional 800 km of roads are also scheduled to be reconstructed,” said Georgian Prime Minister, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, at the project presentation held on Friday.

Giorgi Kvirikashvili added that the program also provides for construction and upgrading of railway stations, seaports and airports, intensive development of agricultural lands and high-mountain regions, what would encourage the creation of new jobs.
