Peruvian government negotiates lowering costs of $5.6 bln metro contract

The negotiations are underway.

The Minister announced that the Transportation Ministry asked the consortium that holds the 35-year private-public concession, Sociedad Concesionaria Metro de Lima Linea 2 SA, to consider building more of the 35-km electric railway above ground.

The consortium took on the project, after its competitors unexpectedly withdrawn from the contest. However, Alfredo Thorne did not admit any violations in the bidding process.

Once the project is completed, it will provide the first subway line for the heavily populated Lima.
