Smog in Chinese fabulous city to be cleared with district heating

The new system is intended to cut emissions and save forests of Shangri-La located in mountains at 3,300 meters above sea level, in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Despite its picturesque location, Shangri-La is heavily polluted by wood and coal being burnt by its dwellers.

The advanced system, based on heat pumps and hydroelectric power from a nearby dam, has been funded by the Danish government and delivered by ABB Denmark and engineering firm Cowi.

The system is 100% emission-free and prompts energy generation by up to 300%.
