This announcement was made on the threshold of a new transport strategy for Leeds due to be published on Tuesday. New jobs are expected to be created with the new station, which will also serve as a park and ride station.
It would remove cars from the highway network and ease congestion in the city’s north, as well as enhance air quality.
There are two other stations proposed at White Rose Shopping Centre and Office Park, intended to be built in support of retail and connectivity.
