Monument to the first President of Uzbekistan to be installed in Moscow

The corresponding decision was adopted at a session of the Commission for monumental art of the Moscow city Council.

The city square located in Yakimanka district, the central part of Moscow, received the name of Islam Karimov in October, the decision was made by Moscow Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, at a session of the Moscow government. It is noteworthy that the park is situated in the vicinity of the consular department of Uzbekistan.

“We unanimously made the decision to support the construction of the monument,” — said Chairman of the Commission Igor Voznesensky.

The first President of Uzbekistan Karimov died on the 2nd of September, at the age of 78 years. He was buried at home in Samarkand, according to Muslim traditions.
