Russia describes talks with Poland on Nord Stream 2 as “politicized”

This view was expressed by the director of the Third European Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Nechayev, RBC news agency reports on Monday.

According to Sergey Nechayev, Russia had to withdraw the application. Nechaev noted that it was the Polish authorities’ policy for “overcoming energy dependence” on Russia that made itself felt. He called that policy “factitious”, since Russia did not give occasion to doubt its reliability as a supplier, “despite the political situation.”

He recalled that earlier the Polish oil and gas company announced its intention not to renew the contract with Gazprom, which expires in 2022. Poland plans to buy gas from alternative suppliers, using a terminal for liquefied natural gas specially built for that purpose.
