Australian government confirms increase in greenhouse gas emissions

The country’s authorities also admitted that, under current policies, it would not be able to deliver on a 2030 target.

Meanwhile, Australia remains on track to “meet and beat” the less ambitious 2020 target of a 5% cut in emissions compared to 2000 levels.

According to the Environment Department greenhouse analysis, national emissions increased 0.8% in the year to June. The rise mostly stems from electricity generation, since Australia consume more power, but is still dependent on fossil fuels, as well as from new projects for liquefied natural gas.
