The incident took place on Yelninskaya Street, in western Moscow.
The identity of the shooter has already been established. Earlier it was reported that three criminal police officers attempted to arrest a man suspected in robbery and were searching his apartment, when he opened fire.
After the suspect fled to a neighboring apartment and took a landlady hostage, Russian special elite forces arrived at the scene and began to storm the building.
Under these circumstances, the gunman made a decision to release the hostage and shot himself in the head. The suspect died at the scene.
